WCS. 27 August 1952. Ceduna. The unveiling of the Ceduna World War ll Honour Roll will be performed by Mr H B Smith, at Ceduna Memorial Hall on Sunday afternoon, September 7.
WCS. 10 Sept 1952. Ceduna. In the presence of a large gathering, the honour roll bearing 186 names of servicemen and women of World War II who enlisted from the Murat Bay District Council area, was unveiled in the Ceduna Memorial Hall by Mrs H B Smith. Mrs Smith s five sons were on active service in the last war. Revs T Hayman and D Gibson conducted the service and Mr A E Chadwick presided at the organ ¦ a special committee drew up plans and made arrangements for the construction of the honour roll, the cost of which was to be borne by the council. The new roll is almost an exact replica of the one erected in memory of servicemen of World War I ¦ Mrs Smith said she regarded it as a great honour to be asked to perform the unveiling ceremony. Being a mother with sons away fighting she knew the anxious times other mothers had gone through and wished she could share the honour with them. Mrs Smith then released the flag draping the roll and said it was her earnest prayer that there would be no more wars.
